- I’ve listed the entries according to the order in which they were added, with the most recent entries at the bottom. I may sort or group them in some other way (alphabetically, for example) in the future. I may also decide to use a different platform for this dictionary at some point, but not anytime soon.
- There are currently two categories of entries: general and tā‘rof., with the latter referring to “an Iranian form of civility or art of etiquette that emphasizes both deference and social rank” (Wikipedia).
- The system of transliteration used here is rudimentary and solely meant to help learners of Persian pronounce the listed words and phrases in each entry correctly.
- Proverbs lie outside the scope of this project (for now, anyway).
General Entries

- یه باره (ye bāre) = While you're at it; go ahead and …
- ex. یه باره یه بستۀ آدامس هم برام بخر (ye bāre ye baste ādāms ham barām bekhar) = While you're at it, buy me a pack of gum, too
- این قدر حرص نخور (in-qadr hers nakhor) = Don’t get so worked up
- همین جوری (hamin juri) = Just because; just for the heck of it; [I was] just curious
- الکی (alaki) = For the hell of it; for grins and giggles
- تهبندی کردن (tah-bandi kardan) = To have something to hold you over or tie you down, such as a light snack, until a more substantial meal
- گیرش نده (giresh nade) = Come off it; don't beat it to death; don't belabor the point
- بزن بریم (bezan berim) = Let's go; let's get going; vámonos
- عجله (ajale) = Haste
- عجله کردن (ajale kardan) = To do something with haste
- ex. !عجله کن (ajale kon!) = Hurry up! Get a move on!
- عجله داشتن (ajale dāshtan) = To be in a hurry
- ex. نگران نباش، عجلهای ندارم (negarān nabāsh, ajale-i nadāram) = Don't worry, I'm not in any rush
- دل به دریا زدن (del be daryā zadan) = To throw caution to the wind; to go for it
- دل به دل راه دارد (del be del rāh dārad) = Used when someone you were just thinking about gets in contact with you at that same moment — literally, “There is telepathy between [our] hearts”; to be on the same wavelength
